You may be amongst several people who are celebrating International Day of Happiness; the campaign is a global celebration which signifies “Action for Happiness” – increasing human happiness and wellbeing as well.
Is this celebration necessary? I guess the global health stats have the answer – well it’s a common fact that people are getting sicker – depression and chronic stress is the norm. Health and wellbeing around the 1930s consisted of fresh free range foods and locally grown seasonal fruits and veg. Mothers were at home and took time to prepare and cook fresh meals and those happy healthy habits were passed on to their children.
Fast forward to the 21th Century – unhealthy lifestyle such as process foods, fast foods and microwave foods has become standard for many – exercise is more a finger job of three clicks or so – let’s just embrace this much needed “International Day of Happiness “ , perhaps it is the start of what’s yet to come.
So how can you secure your own happiness? Your gut and your brain knows too well, because they product happy chemical base on your thoughts and based on your diet – endless studies on the human body neurotransmitters or chemicals has confirm this fact.
Amongst several other happy chemicals, when simulated by your thoughts and diet, powerful Dopamine drives motivation and therefore it can help you to achieve your goal – in essence it accelerates persistence in the pursuit of something that results in a positive happy outcome for you.
Serotonin is another happy boosting chemical – so focus on your success as it helps to reinforce the release of this powerful happy chemical in your gut brain.
Fancy a cuddle – cuddles can increase your happy chemical Oxytocin which is product in your hypothalamus. According to scientist Oxytocin helps mammals to protect their young from predators and this strengthens their bonds with their off spring – when you feel protected it increases your sense of security and therefore your happiness.
So regain control and protect your happiness – it’s all about mind over matter.

Blend one of these happy boosters’ smoothies and enjoy.
- 1 cup of almond milk, 8 almonds, ¼ cup of mango, ¼ cup avocado, dates to taste.
- 1 cup of oats milk, 5 Brazil nuts, ¼ cup diced kale, 10 drops olive oil, ¼ cup gluten free oats, honey to taste.
- 1 cup of coconut milk, a pinch cayenne pepper, honey to taste, 1 small ripen banana, ¼ cup blueberries.
